Terms of Use
Crosstela is free, has no accounts and keeps none of your data, so these terms are short. They are here so that you know where you stand.
1. The licence
Crosstela is distributed through the Apple App Store. Your use of the app is licensed to you under Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the standard EULA), which applies to every app downloaded from the App Store unless the developer supplies its own. We do not supply our own; the standard EULA is the licence. These terms add to it and do not replace it. Where they conflict, the standard EULA prevails.
2. Free, and staying that way
Crosstela costs nothing to download and nothing to use. It contains no in-app purchases, no subscriptions and no advertising, and no feature is held back for payment. We may add features, change features or stop offering the app; if it ever stopped, your charts and progress would still be on your device and in your iCloud, and would remain readable as ordinary files and exports.
3. Your work is yours
Everything you make or keep in Crosstela — charts you draw, photographs you convert, progress you record, notes you write — belongs to you. We claim no rights in it, we never see it, and nothing in these terms gives us any. You can export it in open and common formats at any time.
4. The charts you import
Crosstela lets you import chart files you already have. It is your responsibility to hold the right to use them. A purchased chart is normally licensed to you for personal use, which includes stitching from it on a device; it does not usually include sharing the file or the app's exports of it with others. Please respect the designers whose work you stitch. We do not host, distribute or sell charts, and nothing in the app is a licence to any third party's design.
The ten charts that come with the app were made for it and are yours to stitch, share the finished piece of, and export freely.
5. Thread and fabric information
The app includes thread and fabric catalogues under their manufacturers' own names and colour numbers, which are the trademarks of their owners. Colour values shown on a screen are approximations of dyed thread by nature; the app marks each value as either published by the mill or approximated, and you should choose thread by the physical skein where the colour matters. Quantity estimates (skeins, fabric size) are estimates, and depend on how you stitch.
6. As is
The app is provided as it is and as it becomes available. We work hard to make it reliable, and it keeps your marks locally and in your iCloud precisely so that a failure on one device does not lose an evening's work — but no software is perfect, and to the fullest extent permitted by law we give no warranty, express or implied, and accept no liability for loss or damage arising from the use of, or inability to use, the app. Nothing in these terms limits any right that the law of your country gives you and does not allow to be limited.
7. Reasonable use
Please do not use the app to break the law, to infringe anyone's rights, or to attempt to circumvent Apple's App Store terms. That is the whole list.
8. Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the new version will be published at this address with a new effective date. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it. We will not change the fact that the app is free, or begin collecting data, without saying so plainly and in advance.
